June 23, Saturday

It is another hot day in St. Charles, Missouri. We left in the van and found our way back to the West Marine store for more parts, stopping first at the Starbucks for coffee. We then started to St. Louis to go and visit the Arch. We found our way without any problems. We saw a short documentary about the building of the Arch (in which Kip and Rick took catnaps), and then took the "pod" up to the top. It took 4 minutes to go up and 3 minutes to go down. The top of the Arch is not very big, and there are small windows to look out (and tons of people all trying to see). The view was very wicked at 630 feet up. The stadium picture is from the top of the Arch and the Cardinals were playing.

After going back down, we looked through the 1800's museum (which Wendee really, really liked), and made our way outside to find a restaurant. We ate at Jerry's Steakhouse and the rain came in. We are all surprised at how a sunny day can turn into a storm here in about 2 minues!

We then dropped Wendee and Rick off at the airport. It was hard to see them go, but we had a great time with them.

Kip and I then stopped at the grocery store, put gas in the van, and went back to the marina (without getting lost). Kip washed the boat, and I did laundry. We drove into town again to get supper and to get ice.

By the way, the marina has some really cool golf carts -- Fred / Dianne and Joe / Shirley would love them!! Also, for all of you into agriculture, the corn is really, really high here! We have 550 miles left to go to get to Lake City. Carlo is in good spirits about his broken leg, but we will continue to miss him. Thanks to everyone for the comments on the blog. They are fun to read!

Another Note: The connection here is still bad... look for more pictures tomorrow.

To Kip and Shelly: My scheduled flight was delayed, but I lucked out and got out on an earlier one. The trip from Chicago to St Louis was outstanding and full of great memories. It took a day or so, but I now have my "land legs" back. Seems weird not to be cruising on the river, so we just might have to take our boat out on the river this afternoon.

To Carlo: I hope you realize that you are the foundation and genesis for not only this boat trip, but our interest in boating in general. Kip, Wendee and I have distinct and positive memories of your old Roamer in the 70's....jumping off the top into an inner-tube stands out for me... and there is no doubt in my mind that those experiences made us the boating nuts we are today. So, you may have had to get off the boat to fix that darn leg, but your spirit is always there! Take care, bro. Rick Shefveland.

Kip and Shelly,

We just talked to Carlo. Diane is giving him a sponge bath with a garden hose.

We keep hearing a dog barking. Somewhere along the way you picked up a stray. You better check the hold.

Love, Dianne and Fred
