June 12, Tuesday

For those of you who are wondering, Dana, Suzy and the girls (who have their boat next to us on our dock in Lake City), will be riding with us until Monday, June 18th.

The prayer that was said for us at the barbeque is working! The water is smooth and clear, and the weather is cooperating 100%. Kip happened to be gone when the prayer was said and Bill stated “Where’s Kip. He missed the prayer. Well, son of a bitch.” See Bill, Kip didn’t have to be in the room when the prayer was said. Good thing it’s working.

Dana was the first one up since the clock was shut off and he actually got some sleep. Everyone else slept in until about 7:30 a.m. Suzy and Shelly had an interesting time cooking breakfast, with sausage falling on the floor and in coffee cups, and pan lids falling into the raw, waiting to be cooked, scrambled eggs. It tasted good though.

Most of our trip today was 23 mph, but we slowed down when we got close to Mackinaw so we could sit on the front benches and see the sights.

We left Presque Isle and were heading for Mackinaw Island. We arrived at about 1:00 and walked into town. This place is beautiful!!! Shopping is always on the agenda, and we did that and some. We ate at a restaurant called Mary’s Bistro and sat outside on the patio looking at the lake. The scenery was so beautiful and we took tons of pictures. Our destination was the Grand Hotel. A few of us went into the hotel (it was $12, so the guys weren’t sure that was their thing). It was very formal and had green and red carpets. After 6:00 p.m., men MUST wear ties and jackets and women cannot wear slacks, so we left before 6:00!! We were walking back to town, and decided to take self-guided horse and buggy rides. Charlie was Henriksen’s horse and Shefveland’s horse was Bud. Charlie lacked enthusiasm, but they both knew exactly where to go and the guys didn’t have to show off their horse handling skills. Kip, of course, steered the horse onto the shoulder of the path (hence, that’s why we call the warning bumps on the shoulder of roads “Kip Bumps”. He always does that.

Mary insisted on getting one of those old time pictures with Meghan and Mykenzie. It turned out really cute. All three holding guns with scowls on their faces! Suzy and Shelly took off in a different direction and went to get 5 hunks of homemade fudge. Good thing we are going up and down lots of stairs and walking a lot.

We miss everyone at home and send our love! I will change the rights on the blog so you can leave comments and not have to register… sorry about that! The connection is slow, so we will update this blog and add pictures tomorrow.
