We started the day by having the oil changed and had the tranny fluid checked as well. While that was being done, we had a quick breakfast and waited. The area is much prettier and the bridges are much higher as we make our way.
We took off and immediately ran into a lock. We waited for 2 1/2 hours to get through the lock because of barges. We went another few miles and hit another lock, and waited 2 more hours. Our progress is slow. Whenever we lock, we talk to the attendants. We find out all kinds of interesting facts, like, the big round, circular cement 20' diameter objects outside of the locks are called "cells" and we tied up to them waiting for the lock to open. Also, everyone calls Kip "captain" when calling on the radio. Someone called on 16 and said "Nice roamer, Captain". We aren't sure who that was or where they were calling from.
After that, we went three hours and about 60 miles without stopping. We skipped lunch and waited until we hit East View Marina in Peoria, Illinois to stop for the night. We walked up to Jonah's seafood restaurant (which was excellent), and then picked up snacks at the gas station. The view from our slip of Peoria is very pretty.
The boat is running very good, but we are having a few minor problems: there's some trouble with trim tabs, the windless (anchor) will auto drop but will not wind back up again. We have to pull it up by hand. Kip also has to prime the air conditioning water pump every time we stop for the night (for some reason) to get it running again. We are not worried about these things because we are getting by for now. We can fix them when we get home.
After this blog was posted, Carlo went outside to get water and the engine room door was open, and he fell. He scraped his arm pretty bad, and his knee is twisted. We put ice on it and medicine (thanks to Jan) on his arm. He is ok, but in pain. We called his wife and let her know. We might need to call 911 and get him to a doctor yet tonight. Will update you tomorrow.
