We said goodbye to the Henriksens and Mary this morning, they are flying home. Kip and I are somewhat lost and sat looking around for a while. Finally we got with it and started getting things ready for the new crew. We walked into town to do a load of laundry and get groceries. I talked to a guy at the laundry mat and he said we were in a very gay community. He told me about his boyfriend and his mother, etc. That would explain some of the things we saw over the weekend. Some of you are asking what Apples to Apples is.. it is a game where you try and pick a card out of your hand that matches the card shown. For example, the card shown might say "Impatient", and people put down whatever card they have that would fit that word (for example: Somone might have a card that says "nuns" (Impatient nuns), and someone might have a card that says "worms" (impatient worms). It's alot of fun for the kids (actually for everyone).
Wendee (Kip's sister), Carlo (Kip's dad) and Rick (Kip's uncle) flew in and met us at the boat. Wendee brought all of us Kips Ahoy shirts and zip ups. They are very nice. We showed them around the marina and out to Lake Michigan. They were amazed at the concrete by the lake. We walked into downtown Chicago and ate at a Mexican restaurant, and of course had ice cream. Carlo was amazed at how far we had to walk to get anywhere. We are very excited to leave Chicago for the smaller towns. It is very windy and rainy today, so we didn't take the boat out. We all sat on the bridge and talked until late. We were telling them about Jan and her family, and how much fun we had in Detroit, and of course about the boats in the marina.

On the interstate the first week of June we traveled OVER your river route twice as we made the round trip to Akron, Ohio. We went out on 80 through Joliet and home on 74 through Peoria.
But on the interstate we were oblivious to that most interesting waterway you are now on. Wikipedia says the Illinois River channel was formed in a few days 10,000 years ago when a former Great Lake in Indiana burst open after being dammed up by glacial flow.
Wow! We are glad for you that is over!
Wikipedia says the channel is much deeper than ever needed by modern water flow. That implies you are looking at bluffs [perhaps limestone], just as you would in Lake Pepin.
Love, Dianne and Fred
Glad to hear that your trip is going great. I know Carlo has been looking forward to this part of the trip . You guys have a great time and remind Carlo to call and let me know how its going.

Gave Nick & Mary your web so they could follow your trip.
I loved going through Chicago when we went with Glenn & Kathy on there 42 Viking. He had to take the radar arch off to get under all the bridges.
